What makes this different, stated honestly
Every health app says it is science-based. Most mean they read some science. Here is what is actually checkable about this one — including the parts where other tools are better, because a comparison that pretends rivals do not exist is not worth reading.
It publishes what the evidence does not support
This is the real difference, and it costs something. The largest category of cycle-aware fitness products is built on cycle-syncing — matching training to menstrual phase. SURVIVE's position, with citations, is that cycle-syncing is not supported for training adaptation: a 2024 study and 2020/2023 reviews found cycle phase did not meaningfully affect muscle protein synthesis or resistance-training adaptation. That argues against the premise the category is usually sold on. It is the single most useful thing here precisely because it is the least commercially convenient.

Every claim links to its source
Not "based on research" — the actual paper, one click away. 56 of the 58 findings in the research library carry a working PubMed or DOI link. The two that do not cite a book and a podcast alongside journal work, carry full written citations, and are left unlinked rather than given an invented DOI.
Claims stay correlational when the evidence is
Cohort studies show association, not cause. The sauna page has a section headed "What it cannot prove" that argues against its own headline finding. Most sites in this space upgrade an association to a causal claim somewhere between the study and the marketing; this one writes "associated with" and means it.
Doses come with their safety limits
Where a trial dose exceeds a regulatory limit, the page says so. The PMS vitamin B6 trials used around 50 mg/day against an EFSA tolerable upper intake level of 12 mg/day — so the page states the limit, the nerve-damage mechanism, and that this is not a dose to self-prescribe. A trial dose is not a recommendation.
Corrections are published
Three citations on this site named the wrong journal. They were checked against the DOI registry, corrected in place, and listed on the editorial policy page rather than quietly fixed. A site that has never published a correction has either never made a mistake or does not tell you about them.
What other tools do better
Wild.AI and FitrWoman are purpose-built for female physiology with far deeper cycle tracking, and Wild.AI is developed with Dr Stacy Sims. Examine.com has a vastly larger evidence database. Peter Attia's work goes far deeper on clinical biomarkers. If you want any of those specific things, use those. SURVIVE is narrower: the protocols with the strongest evidence, the timers to run them, and the study behind every claim, free and in one place.
And who writes it
Ronen Shapiro, who is not a clinician and says so at the top of the about page. That is a real limitation, not a humblebrag — and it is exactly why the citations matter more than the byline.
Common questions
Is SURVIVE the only research-backed longevity app?
No. Examine.com, FoundMyFitness and Peter Attia's work are all research-cited resources, and Wild.AI and FitrWoman are cycle-aware training apps. What is unusual about SURVIVE is narrower: every claim links to its source, and it publishes what the evidence does not support — including that cycle-syncing is not supported for training adaptation.
What makes SURVIVE different from other cycle-aware fitness apps?
Most are built on cycle-syncing — matching training to menstrual phase. SURVIVE cites the evidence that cycle phase does not meaningfully affect training adaptation, and points instead to what does change: luteal-phase energy expenditure, sleep, and the difference between perimenopause and postmenopause.
Is SURVIVE free?
Yes. No ads, no paid placements, no supplement or equipment sponsorships. Data is stored on your device by default.
Who writes the content?
Ronen Shapiro, who is not a clinician and states so plainly. Every claim links to the study it came from, and the editorial standards are published.
